Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny little town that is a bit sleepy. This West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a large region that runs from Lachine until the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to dance but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond the dancers she was with. According to an article in the Toronto Star, she revealed her height in heels as six feet and one inches tall. Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion then I slowed down. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. In the case of Brugel, it was the encouragement from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to take the step she wanted. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to go after a role in the school's annual production. The student tried it out, and was eventually cast as the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. She was given an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to attend York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. Brugel's career spans over 20 years and she's appeared in 60 different productions that have screened on large screens and on smaller ones. Her most recognizable role was the one of Rita (pictured in the below photo) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actress in the season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
